- Minimum Hardware and Software Requirements:
- The minimum hardware and software requirements that PAYROLL CALCULATOR
- (PAYCALC) needs to run on your computer are:
-
- * An IBM PC, PC/XT, PC/AT or PS/2 computer or a 100% IBM compatible
- computer.
- * MS-DOS, or PC-DOS, 3.3 or greater.
- * One 5-1/4" or one 3-1/2" floppy drive.
- * One hard disk with a minimum of 3MB free disk space.
- * 640K RAM memory. (Minimum of 512K available memory)
- * A color or monochrome monitor with graphic capabilities.
- * A dot matrix, ink-jet, or laser printer.
-
- Installing Payroll Calculator:
- In order to conserve space, the Paycalc distribution diskettes contain
- compressed versions of the program files. Because of this, you cannot
- use the standard DOS COPY command. You must run the installation program
- in order to de-compress and install the program files on your hard drive.
-
- a. Insert the Paycalc Installation Diskette into your first floppy drive
- (usually the A drive). Be sure to close the lever on a 5 1/4" drive;
-
- b. at the C prompt of your hard disk type A: (or, if you are using
- the B floppy disk drive, type B:);
-
- c. at the A (or, B prompt), type INSTALL C: (where C is the hard
- disk drive where you would like the program to reside.
-
- The installation program will place your program files in the PAY96
- directory, and the printer driver files in the PAY96\EPD directory.
-
- Depending on the type of diskette(s) you are using, insert additional
- diskettes in the installation drive when prompted to do so.
-
- Transferring 1995 data files to 1996 (Registered users only):
- If you used the 1995 PAYCALC program, once the installation process is
- complete you should transfer your 1995 data files to the new 1996
- version format. Log on to the drive and directory where you installed
- the program and type "PAYTRANS" and then strike the enter key. Once the
- transfer program has concluded, you are now ready to use your 1995 data
- files with the 1996 program.
-
- The transfer program does not modify or delete your 1995 data files.
- Just make sure that you install the 1996 program in a different
- directory from the 1995 program.
-
- Loading PAYCALC:
- To load PAYCALC from the C prompt (or from the prompt you installed
- the program), change to the PAYCALC directory by typing "CD\PAY96"
- and press the Enter key. At the PAY96 prompt, type "PAYCALC" and
- press the Enter key.
-
- Setting Program Options:
- Once you have started the program, at the main menu strike SHIFT+O key
- combination to set your program options. The Set Options screen allows you
- change screen colors and set up the print options. It is very important
- that you setup and select a printer before you do anything else.
-
-
- Printing the Manual:
- Once you have setup and selected a printer, at the main menu strike the
- ALT+T combination and select the item "Print Manual". Although this
- manual could be printed from the DOS command line, you will find it much
- easier to let Paycalc do it.
-
- Printing Payroll Forms:
- This version of the program only supports Form 941 and Schedule B
- (Form 941). Support for printing Forms 940EZ, W-2, and W-3 will be
- made available to every registered user as soon as the government
- releases such forms for 1996.
-
- Printing the Registration Form:
- To print the registration form log on to the PAY96 directory or in the
- directory that you installed the program and type in the following
- command followed by pressing the Enter key:
-
- COPY REGISTER.FRM LPT1
-
- Make sure your printer is on line and loaded with paper. The above
- command assumes you are using printer number 1, if you are using
- another printer port substitute "1" for "2" or "3" as the case may be.
